Are Outriders Any Good? – Empire Unit Focus

Total War Warhammer III Immortal Empires – Shadows of Change DLC Patch 4.0! Trying AV1 some more and we’ll see how it works out. If it’s not smooth I’ll adjust as I go.

  1. I personally find Outriders to be better when you dont use them in their intended purpose. When I use them to skirmish, they typically do a little damage, get caught in melee, and then get killed. They are more effective when I keep them in reserve at the start of the battle and then use them to snipe important units later in the battle. Their hidden special power is that they are a gun unit that can shoot over the heads of infantry – you talked about it a bit but I think you underestimated how good this is, because most gun units cant do this! The best way I have used them is to take only like 2 gun outriders, keep them hidden/in reserve at the start, then once the enemy commits to melee, use the outriders to snipe their lords/elite units.

TBH I think they should be given 360 degree firing angle because the power creep in warhammer 3 is INSANE and Empire's roster badly needs buffs.

  2. This is an interesting variation of Pistolliers. Different type of damage, different applications. I wish that their stats were a little bit less abysmal. These guys are textbook definition of a niche unit- can be very good in very specific situations, but easy to kill in others.

  3. I don't really have much experience with Empire. Without the 360 degree firing arc I'd say these guys are severely limited in what they can. I mean, do you have them flank the rear of an enemy melee line and shoot into it? Sure, but I'd be willing to bet knights could do the same thing to better effect. They'd be great at whittling down dwarves and chaos warriors before the main engagement happens, but outside of that, why take these guys over other cavalry that doesn't rely on exhaustible ammunition for its killing power?
