Are Outriders Any Good in Patch 5.0? – Empire Unit Focus

“War. War never changes…” but Outriders kind of did! They’re less one shot one hole in Vlad now and more “endless barrage of bullets blanketing an enemy force in lead”. Is that better? Some say it’s worse. It’s DIFFERENT. But not all change is bad! As in, you run out of ammunition a lot less now… which is funny considering 6-shot repeater volleys.

  1. So this makes me think. Does pistoleer cav of the Empire have any place any more with in the unit roster? Pistoleers big thing, used to be they fired 2 times per model’s ranged attack. But that kinda role is out shined by out riders now.

  2. I think they def need to fix something about the targetting. The repeaters look so cool when firing but then they barely do any damage even to unarmored units. All you need to do is have a unit of war wagons and a unit of outriders, you will see their kills so lopsided in favor of war wagons it aint even funny.

I guess they need to be 75 m to hit but at that range they can get caught up to melee and you need to micromanage them to be close otherwise they would use up all their ammunition shooting at targets further away?

I just got Amethyst Outriders and called it a day.

  3. Now just imagine having repeaters like this, small squad, tier 3 variant Ironsides… Ah well.

Anyway, these Outriders are better in many ways. I like them. It also makes them different from War Wagons.

  4. yeah i dunno they don't really seem that good

in campaign i'd much rather have a few tough empire knights to secure the flanks and dive on backlines while the core shooting comes from far, far more accurate longrifles and handguns. outriders miss so many of their shots it's sad, and having to keep them ultra close means they get destroyed if you forget to micro them for like 5 seconds

  5. Outriders are very effective when supported by Pistoleers. The Pistoleers provide cover against dogs and bats, and cover the retreat while the Outriders reposition.

  6. If they retained their old missile damage per shot, the the Outriders would've been terrifying as dragoons. Raiders and harassers whose volleys would be devastating if left alone. And their inaccuracy wouldn't have been that much of a sticking point. But no, that's "unbalanced."

  7. I usually throw outriders behind my rifle line because they can shoot over smaller units since theyre mounted. Never have to worry about shit ruining your gun lines again. Makes for great fast response respositioning and chasing.

  8. In my experience outriders are one of the best units on the Empire roster now. They can absolutely melt monstrous infantry, cavalry, monsters, anything large. We already know how good their grenade launcher variants are against infantry. With 4-6 Outriders you can take out half an enemy army before they even reach your lines.

  9. From my MP testing – they're really good at destroying enemy cavarly. In first minutes my bro lost all Cold One Cavarly against two Outriders and two Imperial Knights. And it was a clean victory

  10. Just when I thought repeaters are FINALLY implemented, 3 games and 8 years later, CA does this. That calibration ruins the unit, why would you EVER EVER pick repeaters when grenade launchers do the same thing but so much better… Before at least they made good use of their ammo with most shots hitting the target. Half the dps and ammo is wasted since half the shots completely miss.

  11. I like to use them to do… Outriding onto the flanks, and hitting into the side of enemy formations, preferably in a group of two to really melt into them. The fire while moving isn't huge, but it does mean they start firing more quickly after getting into position.

  12. Well, well, Legend rated a doomstack featuring the new Outriders and that Hochland scope trait you guys were mentioning to me, originally hailing from Cultist of Khorne. I don't mind giving Legend-senpai a few clicks for this, especially if people look up Outriders and stumble upon my video later! But no I'm glad people are finding synergies like this.
