” “Why do I even bother?”
Outriders continues to be a pleasant surprise. One of my biggest of 2022. Of course, it is not a release for this year. It is an April 2021 joint. But sleeping on a game and then coming to it later is a wonderful feeling of discovery when the game turns out to actually be good.
Outriders had its share of adversity upon launch. An identity that maybe skewed so close to that of Destiny 2 that there was gamer skepticism that it could possibly measure up. Or, for those detractors of Bungie’s, fears that it would.
But the combination of third-person combat, reminding me of The Division 2, paired with the a progression system that feels akin to that of Borderlands, and intermixed with a loot-drop system that does, in fact, feel akin to Destiny 2, has produced a wonderful mix that feels great with controller in-hand.
As good as this feels to me, I am looking even further forward to trying this out on PC. While People Can Fly had a lot of work to do to get over some of the rough edges from its launch, I am completely satisfied with the front part of the game I am being exposed to for now. This is yet another proof-point of the value of Game Pass for me. Where a game that has a lot of negative buzz was presented to me via an access path that had minimal risk. You love to see it.
