Datto Reviews Outriders – Is It Worth 60 Dollars?

After dumping almost 50 hours into Outriders and getting the question “is this worth 60 dollars,” about 1000 times, today, we’ll chat about my experiences with Outriders over the first 10 days of the game being out. While I could’ve spoken more about the game, I really did not want this video reaching into the 30 or 40 minute mark, that’s Skill-Up’s territory (who also has a review).

If you’re just looking for a quick thing: I would recommend Outriders to those looking for a looter experience that can be enjoyed in a short amount of time compared to others. However, if you haven’t dove in yet, I’d maybe wait until the bugs and issues are ironed out first as people with low tolerance for issues like this in their games. I don’t think Outriders revolutionizes the looter shooter, but I do think in the spots that matter, they did a pretty good job. Not a perfect job, it’s not a flawless game, but I would absolutely not consider this a flop. This game is in a better spot than something like Anthem ever was and Anthem was supposed to be a live service game. Now I think it’s up to People Can Fly to really fix up the game, make it stable and ensure that build variety is much better going into the future. If that doesn’t happen though, I wouldn’t have considered my money a waste as I enjoyed what I played, even with all of the issues.

  2. I personally was hesitant to get this game, mostly because when the demo came out I wasn't sure what the end game was going to be like. Couple of days after launch and hear that while there are issues, the core gameplay was good and end game was fun I decided to get it. Don't regret the purchase at all, even though it's $90 here in Aussieland.

It was refreshing to have a game that, while still is always online, has all of its content on release and doesn't lock away little bits for potential future DLC. If they do end up making DLC in the future I'm looking forward to what they make, as well as a potential sequel but I wont hold out hope for that. Doesn't seem like there's any teased story details outside of whatever is in the eye of the storm.

  3. When the game is cooking like gas ( no crashes, server disconnections or inventory wipes ) its flipping amazing. I enjoy the hell out of it, when the problems reveal themselves it sours the experience.

  4. KNow how you make it where you dont need to over max your DPS to kill things? Dont make enemies super stupidly spongy….or dont give them stupid ass high amounts of damage, to where its kill them now or you die in 1 hit…….. Then you dont need to max out your damage in order to still be good. Then you pick it for a nice damage boost, or you go for other builds and can still play just fine. Sounds like this game is going the Division 2 route. Enemies so spongy and deadly that its go red or go home.

Honestly for me, it sounds like this game will be a solid no. End game is just DPS speed runs defending against swarms upon swarms of guys. Not so much strategy or tactics, just get all the DPS you can find and hold the LMB and spam 1, 2 and 3 until you win……meh….sounds like the Diablo 3 Rifts…..do it faster and faster and faster….meh. Sounds like its ultimately a pretty shallow ass game, despite the demo, I honestly like. The gameplay down low seems to be good and cool enough. The build tinkering is nice, the classes are cool….but yeah, end game just sounds like it will get stale real quick like….

  5. So what im getting from this if you don't mind 3rd person shooters, love Diablo style game play loops, and can work through some bugs and glitches this may be a game you can stand by and play for a reasonable amount of time… seems good thanks daddy datto

  6. I like the diablo aspects of it! Unfortunately co op on xbox is almost unplayable so end game is a solo grind big time! Played to expeditions and its alright but wouldn't have played if it wasn't on gamepass!

  7. Here’s some advice: pay £60 and be a goldfish. Blindly buy into false promises and hype. Keep paying for broken shit and we can all live in a future where Anthem costs £100 and has become the normal standard for gaming.

  8. I find the "don't compare these games" disingenuous.
The core gameplay, level design, loot mechanics and even boss-encounter designs are pretty much off the shelf nowadays.
While diehard advocates for a genre may care about the subtle nuances between various titles from a pick up and play perspectie most of them share a core thread.

run, gun, burn abilities on cooldown, use cover as best possible (be it chest high walls, actual crouching/corner-camping) kill a "named" boss then start praying that the RNG in the background hands you something interesting and not just another trash item for immediate melting down, copy-paste this experience until the last boss is dead and the final conteent release marks the end of the journey (now all that's left will be speedruns/optimisation until next-game arrives).

One look at this game and you can see core aspects of division/gears/order1886/anthem shining out like a neon sign on a misty evening. The important bit is what it does well (the clunky sub-tab laden UI of click rather than HOLD for one) and where does it fall down. After that it's down to whoever's putting the money on the table (in my case i'm still mildly interested but only at a deep discount, games got no legs but weirdly the story tone amuses me where usually this setup I find trite).

  9. Comparing this with Monster Hunter was a bad idea. Endgame content is completely different. There, you can try out the different weapons (aka Classes) without restarting the game once. All 14 of them. And each of them have multiple viable options even for best dps or best builds, depending on the monster you will fight next.

Outsiders? Please restart and replay the 15ish hour campaign 3 times if you want to try all characters. Just pathetic.

  10. i'm having fun with the game, the only thing i don't like is the good loot being tied to fast clears. my favorite class is Devo, and while there's some viable builds for it like, 80% of the time i'm kicked from lobbies because you're not allowed to use anything but techno/pyros for expeditions in the eyes of the community lol.

  11. I love that outriders is just a game. I played it at first, took a break from it because of the server issues and soon will continue and I didn’t miss out at all. There’s no global progress, I can play the game on my own merit 🙂
