As a fan of looter shooters (SHLOOTERS?) I’ve been keeping an eye on Outriders. Now that we got a chance to play the game, is it any good? Today I cover …
I downloaded this demo out of boredom, not expecting to like it and not enjoying the art direction much. Now, I have 35 hours in the demo and can't stop playing and grinding for legendaries! Gotten 6 so far, a couple of them duplicates though. Shout out to my future fellow Tech Shamans!
It is unlikely that level design will improve. Level design principles are lacking so that will be all over the game. They need to quickly call some consultants to talk to them about principles of colour and lighting design. It feels like the levels were designed by the 3Dmodeling guys without any input from any qualifications in design of spaces
As another veteran shlooter player I must say I don't quite understand the negatives you bring up? All these games are by nature 100% linear, they kinda have to be. Now sure Division might trick you into making you think its not linear by giving you a big open world to roam. But when you engage with the game it's all linear, run there, do that. All set piece missions are fully corridor linear stuff. Personally the illusion of it being non-linear just pisses me off, I vastly prefer when they're honest about it. I even further prefer it when they don't add in bullshit like running around collecting stuff to justify and make me engage with their "open" world. The core of a shlooter is the shooting and the looting, and if you say that is good then this is a must play. Any downside that is unrelated to that is borderline irrelevant imo. If they got the shooting and looting down the only thing that might make this a disappointment is if they botch the endgame, which is sadly common (looking at you Division 1 at release, or Destiny at release :/ ), so fingers crossed that the expeditions are a great end-game experience right out of the gate.
I've played all 4 classes and personally the Technomancer and Trickster are my favorites to play. I think the Technomancer is a little trickier to play solo, but it can be done and I can see where the class would thrive in a group. Trickster is fun and effective Solo and in a group.
I tried to go into the demo with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised, gun play and powers were fun, story seems interesting. I wasn't blown away and I don't think it's a ground breaking game, I don't like that I can't jump, but I had fun. I picked up the very Run and Gun nature of the game very quickly, probably because I'm a huge Borderlands series fan. All in all, I enjoyed it and will probably pick it up.
The general game was fine for me. I did not enjoy the huge difficultly spike in fighting mini-bosses. I was constantly being blindsided by regular troops during these flights so my health was forever being chipped away. These was rarely a safe place to stop and wait for your abilities to cool down.
Why do so many shooters treat their users, as if they have never played a shooter before, and force waste our time with basic movement at targeting mechanics..? 🙂
Also … 5:48 You can aim where you want the abilities of the Technomancer land by holding the skill button for few seconds then releasing it you get a trajectory showing you EXACTLY where the grenade or turret will land.
When people stop pre-ordering games, developers will be under much more pressure to ship a decent product. Outriders is another dull game that does nothing new. They'll make most of their money back before the game even releases so there's no need for them to improve the damn thing.
I fell in love with the devastator when at this area 7:10 with a full team (enemies are more numerous with more people) I had launched across that chasm and had at least 20 guys shooting at me as I put up my bullet shield. Just absorbing it all, then throwing it back in their faces.
My god is this a supposed destiny killer because destiny was a super good game when it came out and this is a super destiny copy paste at least do something original
Totally with you on the cover system being off. Technomancer was the only class that kinda needed it…and they need to add a lot to that class to make it fun like the others. I really liked the dialog and character reactions (even if some were a bit goofy). I'm still looking forward to this. My biggest….concern is how the game will fare longer term. Sadly, I'm pretty used to Seasons or extra DLC of some kind and it sounded like that was something they were actively avoiding.
Solid review, I just played through and found the devastator to be awesome as well. Also, like you, I went in expecting the technomancer to be what I would really enjoy.
No trickster? Why not? He’s so good. I love these games!!!! I’m a huge fan of warframe….never picked up destiny because I know I’d get addicted but…this ones in the middle for me. The gameplay doesn’t seem as dynamic as warframe and isn’t as in depth/complex but there’s a lot of room to grow and great potential. I’m excited
After avengers and seeing how the gameplay looks kinda generic, idk what to think of this … Maybe im salty cuz I held out hope for anthem next but EA are assholes
The "linear" problem is nothing. Every game that isn't "linear", literally gives the illusion of openness or choice that flies out the window once you start taking it seriously.
One of the worst game of this year. Graphics are worse than my student UE4 project 5 years ago (hey motion blur and 30 fps freezing cinematics). The gameplay is clunky, horizontal gun spread for a fucking assault riffle, you can hit enemies because their hitboxes are way too large. The feedback is really horrible, the sound is weak, the animations are clunky for everything and everything is too slow. You just press your left mouse button and you can kill everything your weapon will stay ok on the target. From the guys who made Bulletstorm and Painkiller it's a fucking shame and I'm really sad to not enjoyed it but it's just a joke. I don't even understand how you say the feedback are good. at 7:26 of the video you can clearly see your character jumping with his fists like Hulk and will destroy or do something to the ground. It justs put a green ass 2D print on the ground without shaking anything. Come on rly ?
This games has a Gears of War looter shooter feel to me. Classes are pretty fun overall though the technomancer feel like a support class to me though.
Having no Game Chat is a huge Strike against the game . So cross play is no point because you can’t coordinate your team in any mission. I really don’t want too play a game with 2 other players I can’t speak with it makes the game so more enjoyable and less boring. Grinding gear by yourself is not enjoyable.
That one big reason I go back too play Division series. Is the experiences you have with your friends.
For the Technomancer, if you hold down the skill and let go it gives you a targeting line as well.
5:52 you can actually hold down the buttons then release (I think) and this shows you the path of the grenade and where it will land! Very helpful
I had the same issues with the cover system, I hope they fix these issues in the full game.

I thought the demo was great. It sucks when people have to rely on an opinion from a YouTuber to see if they should get the game.

Sounds shit

Games junk. Period
Audio is a problem. Audio is a problem. Wait did they just say that line twice for no reason?
remnant from the ashes meets destiny
Destiny + Division + Warframe + Gears of war
It didn’t wow me. Ok gameplay but the story and writing were awful.

U could drive in this game

division and destiny had a baby
Devastator looks sick but I probably won't ever play this
April the first… The joke is on the people who buy it
Agreed. I played on pc with a techno. I don’t love the game but also don’t dislike it either. It’s so-so.

For the Technomamcer's mine and turret, you can hold your activation button then release to get a guided toss and see exactly where it will land

Felt so powerful.
Thankfully they're fixing the camera issue
Ima have to follow this guy
My god is this a supposed destiny killer because destiny was a super good game when it came out and this is a super destiny copy paste at least do something original
This looks a lot like Mass effect multiplayer

THe Graphics ARE TRAAAAAAAAAASH
I feel like its light… I can't describe it.. like it doesn't have weight to the hits based on the animation you get in return.
After avengers and seeing how the gameplay looks kinda generic, idk what to think of this … Maybe im salty cuz I held out hope for anthem next but EA are assholes
Idk if it matters too much but for the technomancer holding the mine and turret ability buttons allows you to have an arch and throw where you want.
Good thing is no boss was bullet sponges
It’s a you either like it or you don’t situation and I personally like it, a lot. (I just love futuristic genres and looter shooters)
Division 3?
For a looter-shooter, 'decent' is the best you can get.
The "linear" problem is nothing. Every game that isn't "linear", literally gives the illusion of openness or choice that flies out the window once you start taking it seriously.
All you got is a demo nothing really to impress upon
The cover system pissed me off so many times! don't like the level design either, But overall i agree it's not bad i like the weapons/gunplay

How you not played Trickster since you like being Devastator??
This games has a Gears of War looter shooter feel to me. Classes are pretty fun overall though the technomancer feel like a support class to me though.
When this drops to 40$ I'll be buying it for sure

i pre order the game for 38 euros and i think thats a great price for this
