Outriders Gameplay Impressions (Demo) | Outriders PS5 Impressions

Now that I’ve played a significant chunk of Outriders Gameplay on PS5, I figured I’d make a video on my thoughts

  1. I played the earth and the ice classes and they vary WILDLY. I expected some demo buggyness but im expecting them to fix that. My main issue was that the weapon recoil felt kindy of spongy. Im surpised how much im liking the writing and characters already 😀

  2. They already confirmed that motion blur can be turned off in the final version. As for cutscenes, I played through the game with each class once, and I only had one instance where the audio was lagging, though I also skipped them sometimes. I just hope when they remove that cutscene fps lock it will also fix a bunch of surrounding issues.

I actually enjoy the main character and the story a lot. Maybe it's a bit edgy, but it's not the same cookie cutter, we're the good guys bs that many other games go for. That McCain quest had me laughing at the end.

Hipfire feels good enough on pc. It's a bit spray and pray depending on the weapons, but within expectations. You can even hipfire a sniper reasonably well at close ranges, just don't expect to see headshots like that. For shotguns hipfire seems even like the preferable option when you're surrounded.

The skill trees all look a bit samey to me across classes. Middle is survival, top is usually more weapon focused, bottom is more anomaly power focused. Every class puts their own spin on it, but I wouldn't call them super transformative with some small exceptions.

As for the classes themselves, they really feel differently. I think what they tell you on the class select screen is accurate. Technomancer is better staying at medium to long range, Pyro is a bit of an allrounder, Trickster and Devastator are at home right next to the enemies. I could be wrong, but they might also have different stat scaling. When I played with a friend, he was Technomancer and I was Pyro, and despite being the same level, I had higher firepower but a lower weapon damage bonus than him, and the other stats also appeared to have discrepancies between us. The armor and weapon skills offer powerful build options. Technomancer was my least favorite out of the four, but I already had a crazy combination that would allow me to play through an entire sidequest without reloading my assault rifle once, constantly firing toxic bullets.

Basically all I want to know at this point is if the weapon variety is going to be good because right now every weapon in a class seems to have the same stats. It's only made more interesting by the skills. Of course, endgame is key, as per usual.

  3. I'm glad SOMEONE is enjoying this. I played the demo myself before coming here and found it managed to somehow be worse than Anthem and Avengers. It was painful, to say the least. I could not get myself to finish the abomination. Good on anyone having a good time with this, I'm sure it's for someone.

  4. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Personally it didn't work for me. I played on PC. It wouldn't let me bind keys to where I wanted them, it constantly took control away from me, the whole onboarding experience felt really bad as someone with a lot of game experience. Then into chapter 1 after waking up from cryo it just felt like brown corridor into rough cutscene, brown corridor into rough cutscene, brown corridor into rough cutscene. Looks like every other base Unreal 4 game to me. Uninstalled it after I got back to the scientist you meet in the beginning (now aged) because her character was so grating. I'm always glad when people like games, for me though Outriders felt like it was fighting me at every turn and when I could play it just felt like a middling corridor shooter with Anthem abilities.

  5. Playing through the demo on PC. Enjoying the hell out of it. My wife told me to buy it just so she can see what happens with the rest of the story. Only weird thing for me is there were several moments as I was playing where I got some major Anthem vibes. Maybe this game is what Anthem should have been.

  6. The problem with the shaky camera is not that it's shaking like the first Jason Bourne movie. Jason Bourne movie shaky camera adds immersion. Now this game's shaky camera is like it's held by a drunk man. I like the style they're going with it, but give the job to someone from Jason Bourne movie and it's gonna be golden.

  7. The sound was my main issue with the game. Also the cover mechanics were not totally polished, it was a little bit clunky, the division had an option to let you decide if you go out of cover buy just moving the opposite direction or also pressing a button and moving out of it.

  8. I’ve seen a lot of criticism that wasn’t (and still isn’t) being equally leveraged against titles like Destiny 2, Borderlands 3, Division 2, etc. Can confirm the animations are wildly different, for the better, when you’re playing than watching, and thankfully they’re fixing the cutscene visuals with the full launch.

Personally, I loved the demo and I’m excited to be playing something by pro-consumer devs who don’t express implied annoyance, if not overt hatred, for me as a customer with every social media post they make. In that light, there’s a lot more I’m willing to take in stride, as well.

  9. I would say it feels unique enough and the story is interesting (like you, I was surprised) but my main gripe is how floaty the ads is (on xbox one x) and I'm surprised you didn't mention how "clunky" the firing animations are. (Worst is dual pistols imo) and it does bother me a lot. Hopefully they fixed some of it in the full game

  11. The last thing u said about live service games. Your quote needs to be on a plaque or a meme with a 100 million views. Statement is so true and I've been saying thay for years

  12. I played just shy of two hours last night on the PS4 and I think my biggest issue with the game is the quality of the cutscene and the number of loading screens. Audio rarely matched the cutscene playing and would cut out near the end. And I honestly lost track of how many cutscenes I encountered was somewhat shocking. I understand if you're going to a new area, but having a constant stream of loading screens to deal with poor quality cutscene is not a good sell for me.

  13. played the demo for almost 4 hours, did everything there is, i may have only played 1 class, but for me that was enough to say that i am really dissapointed in the game. the writing is funny but bad

(SPOILERS: you get thrown into a cryo chamber half dead, get thawn out 31 years later, suprisingly able to walk it off, only to be thrown into the deathzone, where you get impaled, and magically survive that too, because the microwave planet decided you are the new Hulk, and now "invincible" ((flash news, you are not)) )

the voice acting is rather meh, and the quest/level design is so early 2000's i dont even know what to say.
i know destiny 2 doesent really have a story mode anymore(or can you still play it?), but my god even that was a better experience than what i have seen in the demo.
in my opinion, if you want a looter shooter with spongy enemies, play division 1/2
now dont get me wrong, the game isnt bad bad, but its not 60 bucks good, maybe ima get it for 20, 30max if some friends are interested, but otherwhise i have to pass, too much other actual good games comming out this year.

edit: spelling, even tho it still reads like shit, sorry.

  14. Story was literal trash all the conversations were obtuse as a mug. I had to stop to give my brain a break on a couple different occasions. Then the fact that it's online only is soooo annoying. I'm so over online only games. Especially for solo play. Their soppy inconsistent servers is not something I want to worry about. Gameplay style was fun, like an up to date Mass Effect, but everything else just made me look forward to the Mass Effect re-release coming out later this year. The writing was just so trash I feel bad for the writer. If you liked this story but hated the Monster Hunter movie's writing then you're braindead. It's literally on the same level of trash
