Outriders is an action packed third-person, cooperative, RPG shooter. It was released in 2021 and was developed by People Can Fly and published by Square Enix. According to the developers, “Outriders is a RPG-Shooter with aggressive gunplay and intense action. As such, blood and gore is frequent, and core to the experience. The Outriders unique abilities are as violent as the shooting, with bloody and gruesome methods for dispatching of enemies. The world of Enoch is dark and desperate, and the characters that inhabit the world are equally so. The game has strong language, adult theme and scenes some may find distressing.”
Shortly after the imminent destruction of Earth, the Enoch Colonization Authority (ECA) sends two colony ships, the Caravel and the Flores, to an earth-like planet called Enoch. Housing hundreds of thousands of colonizers each, the Caravel suffers an explosion, leaving the colonists of the Flores to carry out the duty. After an 83 year journey, the Flores reaches Enoch. The Outriders, soldiers tasked to scout the path for colonists, are the first to set foot on Enoch. But things take a turn for the worst as they reach the “Anomaly,” a deadly electromagnetic storm. The Outriders attempt to get the ECA to call off the colonization, but the ECA refuses, killing the Outriders instead. One surviving Outrider is mortally wounded, but is saved and returned to cryostasis by Shira Gutmann, an ECA scientist. 31 years later, the Outrider awakens to a failed colonization attempt. The colonists are stuck in the valley, plagued by the Anomaly, insurgents, and hostile wildlife. With dwindling resources and militant rebels desperate to overthrow the ECA, the Outrider finds themselves back in the middle of an Anomaly storm. But this time, they return “Altered.” After finding Shira, the Outrider learns that the key to the ECA’s troubles is relocating to an area away from the Anomaly. The Outrider gathers their companions and traverses across the alien environment in hopes of finding a new home for humanity.
