Outriders: Pressing The Emergency Game Pass Button

Outriders has announced it’s coming to Xbox Game Pass (console and mobile only) with just two weeks to go until launch. It’s a wild development that is pretty surreal, but really stands to benefit everyone, players, the developers and Microsoft itself, with another big fish landed.

  1. I think Microsoft craps with bricks of gold so they are fine. It does not change the fact that it was a little to late to announce this. It should be done the moment demo got released.

  2. they likely had the framework of a deal in place dependent on the early adoption/popularity of the game. with it getting pushed back (and the success of the demo) likely gave Microsoft/xbox enough insight to agree to greenlight the deal. This also helps secure revenue for PCF which has been clearly stated as a requirement for potential DLC.

  3. PS Now could be a GamePass equivalent if they didn't do such a poor job with it (however, PS+ obviously makes up for this by being vastly superior to Games with Gold these days). Like yeah, PSNow's like Stadia (or something?), but the games are streamed @ 1080p & you can tell, especially if it's a PS3 or an Early-PS4 title. Downloading doesn't mitigate the issue entirely, bc the selection on PS Now changes way more frequently than GamePass. Most importantly, it doesn't do what GamePass does – in terms of "Every Exclusive MS Game / Every Game that Launched on GamePass will (seemingly) remain on the service indefinitely." Notice how Senua's Saga, BattleToads, Streets of Rage 4, Blair Witch, The Outer Worlds, Outer Wilds, Forzas, Halos, Gears, Oris, The Medium, etc., alongside other "less beloved / less successful" Exclusives like ReCore Definitive Edition, Crackdown 3, Bleeding Edge have never left GamePass. Only certain 3rd Party games cycle in and out (for example Wolfenstein 2, which for some strange reason did not return with all the Bethesda titles this weekend…?).
Point being, you're RIGHT, Sony doesn't have an equivalent, but it seems like they could… I honestly think it's down to knowing their install base will not give a damn about PS Now, and will be more interested in PS+, and Now is just there for Xmas buyers, or casuals, whatever. Obviously only GamePass would suddenly be like "Yeah that brand new game OUTRIDERS, the one we don't have the Publisher or Dev in our stable? GamePass, Day One. Because we're that cool" lol.
It's quite interesting actually, because I wouldn't have bought OUTRIDERS, but now I'll probably play through the whole thing, because it's on GamePass!

  4. Aaand that's why you shouldn't preorder…. Too bad it didn't come to PC too. Also not too much pity on people who way over-invested in the demo of a non-competitive game. Getting a head start on content just means content is less challenging and enjoyable.

  5. I bought it and il stick by my purchase. If the Devs are as honest and open about everything like they have been il support them. I don't mind if it comes on gamepass afterthe fact. Just means even more people to play with and we all win.

  6. I absolutely was not going to pay $60 for Outriders. I wasn’t completely sold on the demo. I mean, I was entertained, but not $60 worth of Entertained. But I’m more than willing to play it on Game Pass.

  7. The game new securing a huge upfront payment I’ll be shocked if we don’t see any dlc…but could this mean there will be some Xbox exclusive content with this deal?

I really hope we get some info on why this happened

  8. I plan to buy the game on Xbox even with it coming to Game pass because I want more games to release like this with all content at launch. It's great for the game's player count and more of my friends who may not have purchased will play now.

  9. Without any doubt this is the worst time to be an xbox hater.. I can feel the saltiness and the pain in every word the haters say.. It almost sad.. They try to avoid saying things like ps5 still sells more, and we have god of war, the gotys, the gotys…. But deep down inside, they know Microsoft is creating something huge, and frankly I don't see anyone that could stop them… 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

  10. Not sure why people are concerned with whether GamePass itself makes money? The are like the tires on a car, GamePass being the tires and the car being Xbox. The tires cost you money but they are needed to get the car to its destination. As far as this game being announced to GamePass so late why do people always assume it is Xbox chasi g the publisher to put the game there? Most likely Square saw the analytics from the demo and also looked at waht happened with Avengers and said how do we hedge our risk of a massive die off in player base? I know let's call Xbox and talk about putting the game in GamePass to increase our exposure. Also it is unfortunate for PC users of GamePass but contracts we signed between Square and Steam/Epic, that leaves it upto Square to decide if they want to break those contracts and put it into GamePass for PC. As far as you not being able to carry over your progress from PS5 to Xbox it was your choice to play on PS5. Not saying that choice was bad just saying the choice was yours, neither Xbox/Square made you decide that. If you want to cancel your preorder on PS5 so you can play it through GamePass then do so and play the demo again on Xbox, you still have two weeks.

  11. PS4 pre order cancelled. It screams to me not worth it at full price. The demo was enjoyable enough, I was debating already whether to cancel it. They made that decision for me.

  12. I have one very important thing to say about the outriders demo. Anyone who downloads it should really really really read the privacy policy before they play the game. It tells you about the information that they collect and it is a lot of information. Like what you do on your computer, your friends list, your bank account information, etc. Website you visit. I decided not to try the demo out just because of those terms

  13. Some people buy games off of Gamepass to support the devs.. the get a crazy cut of game sales…

I think they looked at the numbers from the Demo Downloads and realized they needed a larger player base…. idk it does seem late to announce this..

  14. I don't know why people disliked the game until this game pass announcement. I feel like haters are just people who play Cod and f2p constantly making excuses for why they don't want to buy something.

  15. jesus. paul i'm a HUGE fan of you in so many ways, but when you belittle game pass by calling it an "emergency button" you clearly do not understand just how much money devs receive for being on the platform, how much exposure they get, and how successful the game becomes afterwards. there are many many studies with percentages that would obviously blow your mind. this is HUGE for people can fly man.
