Outriders: Where My Expectations Have Landed Before Launch

Now that Outriders is almost here, I wanted to talk about where my expectations are after a full month of the demo and all the preview materials they’ve shown off.

  1. I thin they need to explain that this is the diablo model not a live service. We are so far into the live service era that people forgot that that is a thing. Square not wanting to invite comparisons to Diablo will hurt them in the long run I think.

  2. I love the demo and wanted to grind out more, but when you think about how many world tiers there are I stopped playing the demo. I didn't want to get burnt out. Still looking forward to the game as finding things to do on Destiny has slowed down until next season.

  3. Wait. You said "not running the same mission over and over". But…that's exactly what this game is…isn't it? Or am I blind…did I miss where Outriders shows us a open world or in fact any zone with random spawns and events? From everything I have seen, it's a extremely linear (you can even say it's a game on rails) looter shooter designed around a mission system. You enter zones, complete various stages of the zone/map/campaign and move on to the next zone/map/campaign area. Should you wish to farm…you reload into the various stages of a zone/map and replay a specific stages of the campaign. And you do this…over and over.

  4. When people say 150 hours isn’t a lot. I wonder, don’t people have a life?? I get this IS Paul’s job. So fair enough. But as a avid gamer, working a full time job, I always wonder how people find the time to pour endless hours into a game. Again, not speaking about Paul with this comment, just something I’ve always wondered about.

  5. I’m really interested in this game but as a PS4 player, the demo was just filled with bugs, awful load times, and really floaty combat. I’ve been following this game for a good bit so I hope it has a good release but right now I can’t justify picking it up, unfortunately.

  6. Am I the only one that (at least on XB1X) thought this game looked and felt like shit? I seriously feel like I'm going crazy. Legitimately just FELT bad. Ugly and disorganized. I left Destiny with the launch of Sunsetting but now that they're Sunsetting the Sunset… might go back.

  7. Outriders is a solid game, definitely worth playing.
Also check out Necromunda: Hired Gun as it looks good so far. Apparently its in the Warhammer 40K universe.

  8. I loved the pc demo and have it preordered on Steam. I was much less impressed by the ps4 with its somewhat painful loading, fuzzy graphics, and funky aiming controls. If you are on next-gen or pc, I'd say you will probably have a very good time. Last-gen I think is going to be a tougher sell because of the technical shortcomings.

  9. My expectations for/with and playing the game, is quite simple.

The game is a Fun looter shooter with RPG mechanics and thats what i'm going to take it as no more no less, if it makes me smile and i have fun with it, thats all i need from a game.

But i do have a couple of if's or i should say a couple of Doubts on Proclaiming it's not a Live service and no micro transactions.

On the Outriders game page when you go to buy it, there are two things, that make me curious.

    1. On Console you cannot play this game without a PS+ subscription etc etc and it's always online.(Online play Required)

    2. Optional In-Game Purchases (That's Microtransactions)

  10. Started playing last Friday and it’s a alright game but no where near as good as sum people will try to convince u. The story is… for lack of better words, cringe and the game looks like it was made in 2015. I also don’t understand how they made a cover based shooter make u not wanna use cover. The guns and classes are unique tho and I like the variation. Some of the guns have a cool alien look to them and the abilities have the same feel and look to them as anthem/ dragon age inquisition (which is a compliment). The jankyness of the game is a big problem and the graphical/ audio issues are worrisome, specially since this game is supposed to release very soon.
Overall the games loot and build variation (which in a looter shooter is super important so props to them) is solid and definitely above average but almost everything else about the game seems super unpolished or just outright bad. This game doesn’t feel or look next gen and I feel people are hyping the game up and telling themselves there ok with (or flat out ignoring) the problems bc of the discourse other looter shooters have caused in recent yrs. I wouldn’t spend full price on it but since I have game pass I won’t even have to buy it so 6.5/10

  11. I’m being totally honest when I say that upon seeing the issue with loading screens/doors/jump gaps…I was immediately turned off of this game. hearing that the “exploration” is ultimately very linear, and that the voice acting sucks has me even more wary of this game. I downloaded the beta and still haven’t invested any time into it due to these issues. I love looter shooters but quality of experience is more important.

  12. I stopped having expectations for games a long time ago and honestly. I found I appreciate the game(s) more. The story seems interesting to me and I'm interested in what the anomaly is and what/who caused it. I'll take a generic linear story over Destiny's outstretched, convoluted story any day of the week. It's what I call interestingly boring. Gameplay was solid and fluidity was kinda rough at first but the more I got used to it. It felt better but hopefully that'll get polished so it's a lot more fluid. And my class will definitely be Technomancer into the Pestilence tree. I love my weapon dmg builds. If I want more ability-based. I'll try Pyromancer.
