The Outriders aim assist is broken and terrible and we’re going to explain why. Also Outriders controller aiming feels slow and clunky even when not shooting at people, we’re also going to explain that.

So there are a lot of problems with aiming in Outriders. For starters the aim assist is different for different weapons. The worst offender are Outriders machine guns. These horrible weapons aimbot to the enemies stomachs when you aim down sights. The problem with this is that most enemies stand behind cover where their abdomen is protected by a wall. So you’re basically stuck with an aimbot that snaps you to a wall, preventing you from aiming normally.

The Outrider pistol aim assist is the same as the machine gun aim assist. As for the snipers and shotguns, they jerk towards you target but not onto them when you get near and then slow your aim sensitivity after this until you change direction on the thumbstick. This has its own slew of problems and can bug out and jiggle your crosshair all over the place when there are multiple enemies to look at.

As for raw aiming in Outriders, there’s a huge problem, a bunch of huge problems. For starters the ramp up time is completely wrong, way too long, which makes your aim feel slow and clunky and then suddenly too fast to do anything. This makes aiming very difficult with controllers in Outriders.

Next up the Yaw and Pitch ratio is wrong, controllers aim better when aiming up and down is a lower sensitivity than right to left, assuming you’re playing a game that doesn’t require crap tons of verticality aiming, which Outriders does not.

Finally the extra turning yaw and pitch are set to zero, which is how you’re supposed to do 180’s and turn around. They tried to compensate for this by making the aim sensitivity insanely high and then combining that with an insanely long ramp up period, which then makes your aim feel clunky and slow while making small adjustments followed by wildly fast swinging aim.

This makes it almost impossible to rapidly swap your cross hair from target to target if they’re not standing next to each other. What often ends up happening thanks to the bad controller calibration is you’ll swap from target and then overshoot the next target and have to come back, overshooting a little bit again, then keep making small motions and stopping to use the ramp up speed to slowly get your crosshair onto the target.

TLDR: Outriders controller aim assist is bad, slow, and clunky. It’s not just the aim assist either, even just looking around out of combat feels clunky and terrible because of the horribly mis-calibrated controller settings that we’re not allowed to change.

This video has the best Outriders controller tips and tricks we could think of to deal with the bad controller calibration settings. Hopefully this Outriders aiming guide helps you deal with your console playthroughs like us.

  1. Inverting Y is the only logical way to play. IRL when you look up do you tilt your head forward or do you tilt your head back? When someone asks you to tilt your head forward are you looking down or looking up? There's a reason this has been the case since we've had airplanes and they had inverted controls.

  2. I just saw this video but its the reason I quit playing a few months back. Its bad enough playing solo because multiplayer crashes the game. But when you have to fight with their lousy game settings because we can't find a Master Class, then its like we're being even more handicapped. And one mistake in solo play could mean you have to restart the Expedition run because you can't just get up like you can in multiplayer.

  3. Thanks for the video but yea… This is outdated I was hoping this video gave tips on the additional settings in the game with an understanding of how they work and what is best way to set them to. Even if the best isn't the best in the world, I wish there was a bit more accurate technical information from a numbers perspective. Anyway, thanks for putting this out there, this is probably best for someone thinking about picking up the game and not someone that already has it. Idk

  4. Absolute worst aiming I've ever seen on a console. Didn't get the game until after the update where they put in more aiming options. And it still feels like dog shit. I spend half the time when I play trying to adjust the controls. It NEVER feels right.

  5. Sorry I meant to go on and say that this game has the worst gaming controllers I've ever played, I laughed my ass off when you said that the game controller programmer should be fired and never hired on another job. I agree with you 100%. Man this could have been such a great game but that totally destroys it. Thank you for the video, now I know for a fact that it wasn't just me.

  6. I honestly thought i was the only one having this issue. There seems to be nothing online about how or if they will ever fix this. When i first played it was a game breaker. Since the Update i thought that things might have changed but to my amazement it actually worse for me. I'm on PS pro and when i ADS it drifts and bounces everywhere but the headshot. It's almost as if it was intentionally put there to promote a more aggressive play style which is fine but then why have cover? Just getting to and from the controller settings is a nasty piece of bullshit, I am at a loss as to how to get my controller to do exactly what i need it to do.

As an Update I found somewhere online that using a Techno was far more forgiving on ADS. It did help a lot infact it keeps me playing. IDK where on importance aiming is on a FPS is with this Developer. But I sure do hope it gets fixed along with the stupid cutsceens for a static loading screen. When they said they were inspired by Anthem they weren't laying.
