Outriders – Showcasing Every Tank Build – Trickster Shield (3/11)

This is actually my FIRST and still proudest trickster build with history to my builds. It’s evolved a lot over time while the core concept and play style has remained the same.

This build goes all the way back long BEFORE NEW HORIZON. That is when the middle tree trickster was worse too with Disruption Shield only giving 20% shield gains. You can see videos I made on it here even proving that (and probably proving I’m the originator as far as I know to this build lol).

As you see I was soloing silver rank on Colosseum the first attempts. I didn’t even have Aggressive Teleportation unlocked then and was using all deception skills. Once I did you see I achieved gold rank on it (one of the hardest to get gold on too) then and that was also before I even used moaning winds. It wasn’t until after NH I realized that should’ve been my secondary all along.

Absolutely no one I knew or ever met did a middle tree trickster or used trespassers (which I still do not here).

Trickster was also the last class I chose to play. I started as a dev and wanted to turn all 4 classes into ultimate tanks (and I do mean “ultimate”: NEVER DIE) that could still do enough damage to solo gold rank times on at least some of the expeditions.

I failed many attempts to design a “tank” trickster that was also “viable” for such desires. But mostly it was it’s horrible healing mechanics. Tricksters STILL have the worst healing means by far in the game. Almost no skills even activate skill leech healing for them and even those that do offer absolutely no status effects or debuffs which are key for healing tons in the other 3 classes. They get no access practically to any weapon leech buffs either on their skill tree or legendary sets. They TRULY SUCK for trying to heal themselves CONSISTENTLY.

But what they do get is shield…and what I finally figured out when I actually was almost done with trying a build on the trickster was that your health bar effects how much shield you gain and how strong your shield is. That changed…everything…and I realized I could get the faster reload skill node easily in the top tree which led to using scrap grenade on the fastest reload gun. And THAT I learned after realizing venator’s knife buffed the first damage dealt from ANY source. The problem was my gun and anomaly damage was terrible so I didn’t even want it to activate shooting or hitting enemies directly.

In came scrap grenade faster reload…Then the rest is history following the same build and logic afterwards…adding borrowed time with AT mod…adding moaning winds…finally adding a node in Unforseen Force realizing it boosts ALL your damage sources not simply gun damage.

This guy was taking 0 damage in Eye of the Storm long before even NH update.

The general key is simple: max your health and armor and resistance as usual…but then use that max health to further capitalize on shield regen as much as possible because your shield is much stronger too. Damaging enemies well then just becomes a fun game of activating endless AoE shockwaves that all get boosted by Venator’s Knife which also heals me well if my shield is ever broken.
