Outriders – The Demo and My Initial Concerns…

So… I got a chance to play Outriders finally, and now I can speak a bit more confidently in what I think about the game. I’ll be comparing it to my previous video regarding initial concerns I had immediately after the developers of the game delayed the release for a second time.

  1. I'll wait for a gog release, I just don't accept any DRM for single player games for the longest time now. If I can't run the game from an exe file off platform it's not worth my time.

  2. After playing the demo and seeing the changes coming to destiny, Im gonna wait and see. The main reason I was gonna get this game was because I didnt like the way bungie was handling destiny with regards to pvp and sunsetting. Now that both topics are being addresses and actually worked upon im kind of off the hype train for it. The demo was alright but nothing spectacular

  3. To me the story seems interesting enough but the script holy shit is it bad, when we get unfrozen and meet with the girl again (forgot her name) and she losses her shit at us for being frozen i was like wtf is this writing she is the one that froze us and left us there did the writer forget that, other than that I feel the movement and cover system still needs work yes I know you aren't really supposed to use cover but the tutorial spends half the time teaching you to use it so it should at lest work or just get rid of it if we aren't supposed to use it, I like the loot system the shooting and the world tier system so far, game to me seems pretty good but i don't think it's worth the AAA price tag

  4. I know it's a silly thing. But why can't your character jump? I was excited about the cross play aspect. But I had a hard time sqauding up with my friend on the same platform. Not sure why. My initial impressions is it reminds of the aforementioned games you talked about. A lot of the qualities of those games that I don't care for. Just my personal opinion.

  5. At least it first impressions isnt Anthem levels of bad. Destiny and WF are gonna keep chugging along and play tug of war with their playerbase.

No other game will break ground in this genre now.

  6. Honestly, demo was kinda cool, the criticisms that you have for the game are pretty fair, I really like that there’s gonna be quite a few customization options and the overall challenge that the game started to become later in the demo, especially the boss fight. The best part of this demo is that people can actually try the game and form their own opinions instead of mindlessly bashing it.

  8. This is just gonna be a fun game not a killer of any series just a fun game to play and drop back in and out of it anytime. It has a 30-40 hour story mode then 14 endgame expedition missions to get through with 15 difficulties to master with Madness being the hardest, crafting armor and weapons and finally with the hinting of something bigger after beating all 14 expeditions.

The devs have been so transparent on Twitter, interviews and marketing about what the game is, it’s endgame and everything else about it. So it has my trust and faith I don’t think it’ll be my newest addiction but a fun ride. As a type of Diablo fashion grind and reward system for endgame just seems fun.

  9. I think the gunplay, and overall game play is pretty solid, but it's definitely not something I'm used to.
To me it almost feels like those arcade shooters with the plastic light guns, which I could see as polarizing for a lot of people.

  10. The way loot works in this game is so focking good and the whole "shoot to heal" mechanic is so good man , i hate being staring at all in destiny 2 just to wait my HP to go up again

  11. Had a fun time, enjoyed the B movie type story with the somewhat self aware protagonist. The motion blur on sprinting has gotta go, and the comically overdone shaky cam. The game was fun though, gonna give it like 3 weeks to settle before I decide to buy in or not.

  12. I quit Division and Warframe becuase of this, this demo is way more fun than whole Divison series.
What guns in "E for win" Warframe?
Outriders has something current looter shooters don't and thats story and end game

  13. Hearing it focusses so heavily on the story actually seems like a negative to me in the context of that cutscene I saw Quiette Shy post… LIke, if that's out of the ordinary for the game then it seems like it'll have massive tonal whiplash. If it's not out of the ordinary then it seems like the entire story will be a middle schooler's idea of an adult war story.

  14. Something I noticed a lot about Outriders. The game seems to have almost have this artificial (fake?) popularity around its release of the demo, ads plastered on every pre-roll for every twitch stream I clicked into no matter where I went.

Not only that, but every moderate to large Warframe streamer was talking a lot about the games features and advantages it has over Warframe's design regularly which I thought was weird (which probably might have happened to Destiny 2 streams as well if it was present in WF streams) considering all that had been released was PR and trailers that were not really compelling.
It seems there was a relatively large campaign to get passive interest in the demo this way but none of these streamers were saying they were being asked to promote the game or being paid to promote the demo. First day comes around, and on the Twitch directory every single stream is plastered with #AD. Yikes…

Which is fine if the devs want to promote games they make but this seems so over the top for a game that plays like a copycat Division game on mobile. The demo gameplay is alright, but this plays nothing like Destiny 2 or WF. A lot of the games inventory and gameplay seems to be cut and pasted from other popular genre games, with the devs (from what it looks like) focusing on creating a storyline and cutscenes to compensate. IMO this is probably going to keep me away from the game in the release. Most people enjoy having a story, but what sticks to me and anyone that plays older games like CSGO, Team Fortress, Halo etc. is the actual gameplay – the way the guns look and sound, the movement, the variety of enemies and maps, mission challenges and events.

It worries me that this game is gonna get a lot of people sucked in with the hype around the marketing and when it comes to release, people will play for a week and drop the game after they get everything from the story. Everything just gives me cautious vibes around the game, maybe that's me and the game will be great, but this looks like something people will forget after a month like Lawbreakers, Evolve (remember that? XD) and Anthem…. my 2 centz

  15. Having played the demo, it gave me nostalgia vibes in that it felt a bit like a single player campaign game from about 10 years ago, just with better mechanics and visuals. Which is honestly a good thing, and something I'm looking forward to. Not a game that is designed for you to grind for the next "10 years", but something to pick up, play for a few weeks / months, put it down, and maybe replay it in a years time. Sometimes there is something to be said for a good one and done game, as opposed to a game that becomes a second job that you have to long into every day or you miss out on something.

  16. Played through it on PC with zero technical problems, didn't hate it (other than the shaky-cam and motion blur), but didn't like it enough to buy it full price. Maybe someday when it's on deep sale. Storywise, I'd put money on Moloch turning out to be Maxwell.

  17. It seems like there's a lot of good gameplay, too many cutscenes (at least in the demo), i liked all but one of the classes (devestator didn't quite feel like the tank that the class is described as) all the other classes were really nice though, i personally would prefer a weapon system that forces you to invest in specific weapons, the system given to us in the game is still pretty good though, and it definitely felt more tactical then most other games in the genre

  18. I share your scepticism. I played the demo earlier today and honestly I found some of the story and dialogue laughable. To the point my 11 year daughter was poking at it. Not to be cruel or snobbish I just got the impression from my first glimpse that the story was quite weak. The characters aren't terribly interesting either. Very shades of Anthem for me.
What is supposed to drive this game is the combat and powers so I put the story and dialogue out of mind and tried to get into the combat. I was sorely dissatisfied with my experience. Combat felt clunky to me in the way Gears of War did. And side to side and movement backwards feels awkward. And the close quarters combat is terrible, also like Gears of War. Yes its a demo, yes its only the beginning of the game, but I feel that the pillars of the game simply aren't that interesting or innovative. There is no new ground here, I really felt like I was playing a re-skinned Gears of War clone.
These are only my impressions and opinions and if people play it and enjoy it then good on them because thats what a games are supposed to do. For me this is a hard pass. The last 2 or 3 years have been pretty rough for video games as a whole with many of the biggest titles being utter garbage. Outriders isnt utter garbage, its an ok game that is releasing without any real competition for the player base its after.

  19. Every actual objective being a cutscene kills it for me. I'll still support and play but until that gets patched out for actual battles I'll be little more than a passive/casual most likely.

  20. It lacks polish. The demo was a fade to black loading screen city (not cutscenes) but simple acts of entering a room or crossing the bridge. Not worth 60$.

The gameplay is not fast paced for sure at least not for me. I'd rather play Doom Eternal for a challenging experience and stick to warframe where I can mindlessly kill enemies.
