Outriders: Worldslayer – Let's Get Honest (Review)

People Can Fly have taken the over-the-top powertrip fantasy known as Outriders, and released their first DLC – Worldslayer. Is it worth the purchase, and have they done enough to improve on the base game?

Outriders is a third-person shooter mixed with elements from role-playing games. In the beginning of the game, players create their custom characters and choose from four classes, each of them with unique abilities that the players can use. The four classes include the Trickster, which has the ability to manipulate time, the Pyromancer, which can manipulate fire, the Devastator, which can unleash seismic attacks, and the Technomancer, which uses turrets and other devices. These special skills have a short cooldown time and can be combined with other skills for maximum effects. The game features a skill tree that allows players to unlock and upgrade their skills.

Players can use different weapons such as shotguns and assault rifles to defeat enemies, and firearms can be customized with weapon mods. Players can hide behind cover to shield themselves from enemy attacks, though health will only regenerate if the player manages to hurt or kill enemies. Players combat both monsters and human enemies. As the player progresses, the world level (the game’s equivalent to gameplay difficulty) will increase. If the world level is high, it is more likely for the player to get high-end loot from defeated enemies. Players can equip armors that offer protection against incoming damage, with each class having their own unique armor sets to collect.

The game incorporates various role-playing elements. As the players explore, they can explore different hub areas, talk to non-playable characters and complete side missions. In cutscenes a dialogue tree allows to decide the outcome of some conversations, though it does not affect the story’s progression. The game can be played solo, but players can also complete the game together with two other players.

  1. Worldslayer takes everything that PCF did well from the base game, and hits it with a heavy dose of gaming steroids! But is it enough to bring players back and address their biggest concerns?

  3. When you said no saves during the Trials of Taryah Gratar, are you referring to 'No Checkpoints" In mission?
Sort of like Legendary difficulty in Division 2?
Just so I have a clearer understanding.

  5. i do hope they made more balance in weapon vs 'magic' users, specialy devastator weapon based falls behind so massive. And no, those weapon buffs i consider 'magic', since they change the damage type.

  6. I've not played this game since Sept 2021 because of the loot drops. Curious to see how this DLC plays and what the loot drops look like. I'll be tuning in tomorrow.

  7. What is your opinion about firepower vs anomaly power builds now with Worldslayer? Because apparently the meta has changed but after seeing this video, well that Technomancer looks pretty strong in the gameplay. Borealis set is still powerful in the expansion or not?

  8. it's a no to me – not enough content and the reused content they should be ashamed – there is some fun there but doubt most will play this longer then 3 weeks- should have shown some good will and sold this for 15-20.00 for people who purchased the core game.

  9. Looks good but not like another $40 good. Everything seems to be drifting in the right direction for Outriders but we are just now getting to the point it feels like we should have been at a year ago

  10. For the price I'm very disappointed to hear about the lack of length in the content…. So all they really added was a end game grind….? thats kinda lame but oh well I'll still play it. when it goes on sale.

  11. I've pre-ordered and I'm glad I did. I look forward to jumping in tomorrow after work. A minor note here, I always assume honesty. When I read it in the title or screenshot of the video then I start to think "was there lying before this video".

  12. I loved this game. It was so fun, I dumped at least a 100 hours into it. But the multiplayer connection killed it for me. Playing by myself felt empty at times, and the continuous disconnection ruined the experience. I loved the chaos, and the look, and they brought something new to a looter shooter genre, but getting kicked almost every match was just a little too much. I'll come back, but they gotta do something about the connection issue.
